Hopeless
04/14/2004
Chronic ineptitude plagues the man
He's drowning in his head
as he impotently burbles
lackluster lyrics
Drugged by insomnia, senseless
his eyes wander innocuously
noting softening shapes
He waits sheepishly at a distance,
detecting a dauntingly vast void
larger than the space between
The tepid atmosphere turns
with a flurried final exchange
a rosier shade of ashen gray
You're adorable, she says
in her glance and her smile,
if he can believe his eyes
Reluctant he retreats
optimistic
yet without hope.
