Free Verse

I don't particularly like poetry. I really dislike reading other people's poetry. But I find that when I look back on all my work, I am most pleased with my poetry.

I think the dichotomy comes from the fact that I don't often know what other people's poetry is about. I don't have a natural ability to see what their imagery or metaphors are pointing at. But since I wrote mine, I see exactly what I mean, and I think I'm quite clever. Perhaps that's why poets seem so smug...
